This is what people are not talking about

Covid-19 is a very scary thing.

Some people are excited about the vaccine and can’t wait to get it. Others are choosing to sit back and wait.

Whatever your thoughts on the topic are, there are some things that you can do to protect yourself that just don’t seem to be making it to mainstream news.

I am going to list 9 of those things here.

It can seem daunting to feel like you have to change up your whole life to protect yourself from this virus. Especially during a time when we all long for the familiar and comfortable.

I recommend that people start with one or two of these things, get really good at that, and then add on from there.

  1. Sleep

So many people joke about the amount of sleep that they get, but, the truth of the matter is that sleep is really important. It helps to remove toxins from the body, process heavy emotions, and support our immune system, to name just a few things. So, the next time you want to stay up late to watch the latest t.v. show, remember that your sleep is more important than keeping up with the latest fad.

  • Play

Like sleep, many people have put the opportunity to play on the back burner believing that putting in crazy amounts of hours at their job is more important than their health. When we run on high levels of stress day after day for hours on end, and don’t take the time for rest, relaxation, and self-care, our immune systems become weakened.

  • Remember that your skin is one big mouth

Do not put anything on your skin that you wouldn’t put in your mouth. When we apply things to our skin, the chemicals and toxins enter directly into our bloodstream. To find out if your personal care products are safe, go to www.ewg.org/skindeep.

  • Eat real food

Do not eat edible food-like substance. Choose to eat foods that you enjoy that your great-grandmother would have eaten. Things like fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and meat. Those things provide nutrients that our body requires to have more energy, mental clarity, be pain-free, have clear skin, smooth digestion, a healthy sex drive, and stable moods.

  • Get fresh air every day

Indoor air can become quite toxic due to the outgassing of furniture, rugs, and heating systems. Go outside daily, even if it is cold or rainy out. Even a short walk, focusing on deep breaths can help. Use this time to step away from technology and move the nervous system from “fight or flight” to “rest and digest” mode.

  • Eat as much organic food as you can find and afford

Most pesticides are endocrine-disrupting agents that cause hormonal imbalance that lead to cancers in men (prostrate) and women (uterine or breast). Maximize nutrition by buying fresh, local produce that has not been sprayed with pesticides. Not every farmer can afford the organic label, so shop local and ask. If it is not possible to buy all organic food, use the Dirty Dozen list put out by the Environmental Working Group every year. It can be found at www.ewg.org/dirtydozen.

  • Drink plenty of clean, pure water

There are a huge number of toxins dissolved in the water coming out of the tap that municipalities are not required to disclose. To find out what contaminants are in your water, visit www.ewg.org/tapwater and enter your zip code. One of the easiest things you can do to support your health is invest in a water filtration system and a glass bottle. Make sure to drink half your body weight in ounces of water each day. For example, if you weigh 160 pounds, drink 80 ounces of water.
