3 Ways to cut sugar cravings

Sugar cravings occur for many reasons.

Physically, they can be due to a yeast infection that you may not even be aware of.

Psychologically, you may be looking for more sweetness in your life.

Psychologically, you may be addicted to sugar.

Whatever the reason, these cravings can be one of the biggest blocks in allowing people to lose weight.

I am going to share 3 ways to cut sugar cravings:

1. Start your day with plenty of protein and some good quality fats. Fifteen grams of protein is a great way to start your day.

Enjoy a cup of quinoa with a hard-boiled egg for about 14 grams of protein.

If eggs aren’t your thing, try some chia seed pudding for breakfast.

Mix 3 tablespoons of chia seeds in 3/4 cup of almond, coconut, or oat milk. Add a tablespoon of maple syrup or, if that is a trigger for sweet things, a couple of drops of liquid stevia. Shake it up until it starts to thicken. This is about 14 grams of protein. Top it with some nuts for a little extra boost.

Leftovers from dinner also make a great breakfast. Beef, chicken, fish, beans are all high in protein.

Add a couple of slices of avocado or some nuts for some healthy fats.

Consuming proteins and fats, especially in the morning, helps keep us fuller longer so we don’t go looking for a treat by mid-morning.

2. Consume bitter herbs

Bitter herbs sound… bitter but there are options.

You can consume actual herbs such as horseradish, endive, parsley, mint, or chamomile.

Or… you can take your bitters as a tincture.

Bitters not only are a natural way to improve digestion but they also help curve sugar cravings.

You can take bitters before or after a meal or whenever a sugar craving hits.

Just place a dropper on your tongue or spray your tongue.

One of my favorite bitters is Herbal Digestive Bitters. It’s easy to throw in your pocketbook or bag or leave in your car for easy accessibility whenever those cravings hit.

3. Peppermint

Peppermint is excellent at stopping sugar cravings.

Brew peppermint tea and sip on that after a meal or whenever you are craving a sweet treat.

Alternatively, try brushing your teeth whenever you want something sweet. You won’t want to eat anything after you brush your teeth plus the mint will help stop any cravings for something sweet.
