Symptoms are a gift!

What if…

Those stiff and achy joints, headaches, being bloated, and other symptoms that you experience weren’t an annoyance but a gift?

Does that sound crazy to you?

Symptoms such as those and others are our bodies’ way of letting us know that something is not right. When these symptoms get bad enough, we may address them by suppressing them either with prescription or over-the-counter medications.

From there, we end up taking more and more of that medication because it is not working for us. That might be because the mechanism that that drug is for is not the cause of our symptoms or our bodies might adjust to that medication and need more to have the same effect.

If we do have success, then those meds end up causing other issues because they are causing some kind of block or nutrient deficiency and we have other symptoms.

Before we know it, we are on 5 different medications and are not getting any better. In fact, we are getting worse. We don’t have any energy to do the things we love or to take care of ourselves. We eat more.

Instead of suppressing those symptoms, what would happen if we explored them?

Why am I achy and tired all the time? Is this the way I usually feel or is did it come on suddenly?

Am I giving my body the nutrition and support that it needs? Am I resting when I need to and prioritizing my needs? If not, what can I shift in my life to do so?

We all think that we are trapped in our lives and have no choices but the reality is that there are always options. Some options may not be appealing to us but let’s look at why that is.

You may say to yourself, “I am tired and achy. I don’t want to prepare dinner tonight.”

There are a few options: you could make yourself something simple such as throwing some vegetables on the grill or cutting up vegetables and dipping them in guacamole to get some healthy fats in. You could ask a family member if they would mind making a meal. You could order take-out and end up feeling worse because the ingredients in restaurant food are never going to be the quality of food that you create at home.

What would be the best option for you today?
